Nelson Roberts is a musician, composer, and producer with an instinctive ability to play by ear. ‘Whatever he hears, he can play it.’
That ability gives him a unique versatility as a musician. He can step into a performance, hear what is needed, and contribute in a way that supports the larger musical experience.
But Nelson is not simply a performer. He writes original music, produces music, sings, and collaborates with other artists and organizations. He brings years of experience working in live performance environments.
His work has included musical collaborations with North Carolina A&T State University, performances with productions at the Barn Dinner Theatre, and community-based music projects that demonstrate what he believes deeply: Music can heal. Music can connect. Music can inspire.

Nelson's musicianship begins with one of his most distinctive abilities: he plays by sound. Rather than being limited to music on a page, he can hear a piece of music and translate what he hears into performance.

Some of Nelson's most meaningful work happens when music becomes a tool for connection. He believes deeply in the ability of music to heal, connect, and inspire.
That belief was reflected in his work with students at Carter High School in Winston-Salem, where he produced music for a campaign created around inclusion and redefining perceptions of people with disabilities.
Students recorded and performed the song "We Are Connected," carrying a message that differences do not have to divide us.
The project received community attention and was featured by the Winston-Salem Journal.
For Nelson, projects like this represent what music can become when it is used intentionally.
